Short description of the case:
The aim of this joint project of the Dutch ministries of Justice and Finance is to reduce administrative burdens on the business community. When the government and business don’t speak the same language, administrative work can become a nightmare. The same goes for financial reporting such as annual accounts, tax returns and statistical information. These and other administrative burdens cost business 16 billion euros annually. With the support of a small, flexible organisation, the NTP makes it easier for businesspeople to submit their financial data more easily on-line to the Chamber of Commerce, Tax Department and Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). This is done with the help of the open standard XBRL. Initially, it was possible to save 350 million euros a year and that could increase to 750 million a year. NTP is a brilliant example of a project that not only saves money and improves quality, but that also reduces irritation and saves energy. It is a cutting-edge innovation that can also be applied internationally.
