 Short description of the case:

The police of Rotterdam Rijnmond developed this IT tool with which it is possible to more efficiently process tickets and fines. The use of handwriting recognition technology in combination with digitising the process of processing tickets is something new for the Dutch Police. Instead of a processing time of 5 weeks, the person receiving the ticket now has the ticket mailed to his or her home address within 5 days. The accelerated process saves a tremendous amount of staff capacity required to process tickets: expressed in euros, we are talking about 1,487,538 euros a year. Of course, this mainly means more police officers patrolling the streets, where they can focus on real police work instead of administrative red tape. Assuming this yield, it is expected that the invested expense will have earned itself back in a period of four months. It is efficient, effective and innovative. It is big in its simplicity and done in a way that is S.M.A.R.T.
